Liverpool is Sitting on £314K of Lost Cash

(PRWEB) January 22, 2010 -- The average sofa has £1.67 down its back. So, with 187,865* households in Liverpool, there could be a whopping £313,735 of loose change just waiting to be found behind seats in the city. The information released by sofa specialists Plumbs today says that money is the most common thing found behind the sofa, followed by food, buttons, pens and remote controls.

The largest sum of money ever found by a Plumbs consultant is about £60, much to the sofa owner’s surprise and delight.

There have also been plenty of unusual ‘behind the sofa’ discoveries made by the Plumbs team, who reupholster and recover 40,000 sofas a year, with the most curious being a hibernating tortoise. The cheeky creature had decided that hiding in the sofa bed was a much more appealing proposition than sleeping in his cardboard box for the winter months. The tortoise’s owner, who has given up hope of ever finding the much-loved pet, was elated by the find.

Other odd treasures include (cold) hot water bottles, sets of false teeth, numerous pairs of knickers, sets of car keys and a long-lost wedding ring.

Chris Plumb, Online Marketing Manager at Plumbs said: "We’ve found some really interesting things lurking in the backs of sofas, but it’s some of the more common discoveries that show it’s well worth putting your hand down the back of the seat and having a good feel around, especially if you need a bit of extra cash."

"Money is the thing we find most frequently as it can fall out of pockets and drop behind so easily, but it’s also worth checking for false teeth and missing remote controls, which are other common finds."

Any items that Plumbs consultants find behind sofas are promptly returned to the owner of the couch.
